bad/good....problem/solution

bad news:  i got a speeding ticket for going 50 mph in the 40mph zone on 32nd street this morning....i was one block from my safe parking space at work.  boo.

good side of the bad story:  the cop was super super nice and funny.  it was strange.  also, i am going to traffic court rather than getting this stuck on my record.

bad news:  i was showing a couple of symptoms for diabetes and i'm at high risk for it so i decided to finally check into it.

good news:  the test proved me clear of the darn thing!

problem:  i've been praying for passionate people interested in the mercy ministry.

solution:  two people came up to me this week asking how they could be involved in the ministry!  praise jesus hey?!

problem:  i've been having a rough couple of weeks (feeling lonely blah blah)

solution:  i think i'm done with that for now.

so.....

update:

i got sick this weekend...and still am sick.  i have not been this sick since 2006 in cape town....only there i went to the ER.  here....i went to the doctor.  i got some syrup that contains codine.  that scares me a little, but it is supposed to do the trick.  i've missed work for the first time ever.  i will be replacing time missed with my preciously accumulated vacation hours.  oh well- they never stop accumulating.  the good news is that tomorrow i was scheduled off!  yay! also, i am able to hold down food and drink.  i've been taking food in the form of oranges ( i have a strange craving for them when i am ill), oyster crackers, and old people's offbrand ensure....and drink comes in the form of orange gatorade.  mmm.  orangey.

valentine's day is coming up in 2 days.  i have some things for my immediate family...and that is all.  it's nice to know that we celebrate with each other every year though.  i usually get flowers and chocs from them.  mom brought me some "get well" tulips already.  they are gorgeous!  we talked about having a pot luckish dinner together this weekend for "valentines day" since i work thursday night.  i hope everyone's up for it!

i went to a unicorn party this past weekend...just before i got ill.  i thought that everyone was supposed to make a unicorn and wear it....so i attached a carefully formed starbucks cup covered in aluminum foil to my widest headband.  i change clothes a lot (usually) before i go out....and i was trying to change with the unicorn horn on.  man.....that'd be toughsies if you really did have to cope with such a condition.  also, getting into the car was tricky....so tricky, in fact, that i had to take off the horn and just put it on when i got to the party.  ah...the party......so i walk in...with my horn on....only to find that i'm actually the only one with one.  everyone else copped out by wearing unicorn shirts, or bringing stuffed unicorns.  bah.  wusses.  i also got to meet the guy that gave me one of the biggest compliments i've ever had. he came over to my table this past summer at ihop and said the nice thing.  anyway, in real life, he seems really nice...it was way random to meet him at the party though.  he said "i've been looking for you"...but i don't believe it.  come on, man, i work at starbucks!

anyway, i've concluded that being sick is boring.  i watch television and sleep.  i check my email, facebook, and myspace....and this now.  i could be reading all sorts of fascinating stuff...but for some reason, every time i pick up a book and start reading i feel like sleeping again.  this is dumb.

also, i want to go to camp's bay beach right now.  this very instant dammit!

i've also found an optimistic way to cope with the frigid weather....it goes like this:

being this cold just means that warmth is coming soon.

the end.

what a day.

i am tired, but thankful right now.  i got to catch up on some much needed sleep this morning.  i went to work with a wonderful group of people that i am so blessed to have.  i also got to spend some time with a friend i hadn't seen in a while.

i'm cooking an indian lunch tomorrow.  it is the first of (i'm sure will be) many attempts at this cuisine.  i got a cookbook on 'curry' for christmas so i went in search of the spices and whatnot.  it took me 4 grocery stores to find MOST of it....there were 3 items i was completely unable to find alltogether.  fox farms had a majority of what i needed.  now, i have an even more ridiculous amount of spices.  i've been forced to create and overflow spice cabinet in my water heater closet.  i can use the new tools i got for christmas to make a huge spice rack.  i know just the place for it too! i'll have to start that tomorrow night--or on my next day off.  i'm excited- i've never really built anything on my very own before! ok...back to the spice quest....

i went in search of curry leaves....and out of desperation i went to the newish thai place--kinnaree.  i love that place, and i found the owner to be very friendly so i figured i'd see if he would sell some of his leaves to me.  i went in, and i talked to his daughter for a while.  she's so sweet.  she was here just for the holidays to help her father at the restaraunt, and now she's MOVING here from her former home in colorado, and transferring to missouri southern.  i think that's pretty neat.  i also think we will be friends.  anyway, the father didn't use curry leaves in his cooking--in fact, he didn't even know what they were--i told him they were for cooking mostly indian food....and he turned to two of his customers (who just happened to be indian) to ask them.  it was a pretty funny fiasco, if i say so myself.  they guys were really friendly and they explained that i wouldn't be able to find the leaves around here---but not to worry too much since they were mostly used for their smell rather than their taste.  good to know....yup.  so after that, it was food for less---which was, for the most part, disappointing.

i took matt to starbucks after that since we were close anyway....and my friend timmy flung foam at me out the drive thru window.  unfortunately, and yet somehow fortunately (as far as hilarity goes) i unrolled my window because i thought he wanted to say hi.  half of the foam got on my window, and the other half got on my face and shoulder.  it was pretty warm....and pretty damn funny.  but i left my whipped cream on his car window nonetheless.  now both of our cars look like we've had a HUGE bird with indigestion crappoopie on them.  it's my favorite.  i'll probably wash it tomorrow....but it's cold outside, so maybe not.

sidenote:  i bought the movie "roman holiday" for 5 bucks at walmart.  5 buck classics! yeah! also, my house smells like an asian restaurant.  i have mixed feelings about that.

i think it's time to go.  i am just mainly typing this because i've been cooking indian food all night and waiting for it to cool so i can store it in the fridge for tomorrow's lunch.  i bet it's cool by now.  cheers friends!

it's christmas eve!  god's still captivating to me after all these years.  it makes me smile when i realise that.  he did it again tonight on my backroad drive to my parents' home in carthage.

the moon and stars were his medium of charm this time.  the moon was golden and full and (yes this is silly) it seemed to travel with me lightly (or cheerfully) as i drove.  i never lost sight of it...and try as the glamorous electric and colorful lights may to stun me--they could not- for i was mesmerized by the god who could create such brilliance in the night---on THE night...rather, the night before the commemorated celebration of his son's birth.

he is nothing less than glorious.

merry christmas eve!
